Save the Date: Sen. Ben Downing's Town Hall Forum

Senator Ben Downing will convene a Town Hall Forum from 6:00pm – 8:00pm in the Gymnasium of Morningside Community School, located at 100 Burbank Street, on Wednesday, October 21, 2015.  The event is free and open to all residents of his District.

Capitalizing on the popularity of his monthly Coffee & Conversation event series, where Downing holds open office hours and visits with constituents in the small towns he represents, he hopes this additional public forum will provide additional access for constituents wishing to see their State Senator in an informal setting, ask questions and submit ideas.  Those who do not wish to speak are also encouraged to attend and learn more about what is going on in their community and in state government.

Those who are unable to attend in person can watch a rebroadcast of the Town Hall Forum via Pittsfield Community Television's (PCTV) CityLink Channel 18.  Visit for complete scheduling information.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Each December Senator Downing mails approximately 3,500 holiday greeting cards to friends, family, supporters and colleagues across Massachusetts.   As he prepares for this annual tradition, he is bringing back his Holiday Greeting Card Contest, which he began in 2014, and asking local students to design his card for him.

"Last year 250 students from across western Massachusetts participated in my contest,” said Downing.  "It was a fun way to connect with my youngest constituents, and it helped spread holiday cheer.  I can't wait to see the creativity that I know our students will submit for this year's contest.”

Last year's card featured original art by Lizzie Paglier, a Lanesborough resident who was in Grade 8 at Mount Greylock Regional High School.  Prior to the contest he usually chose an image that related to his Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin & Hampden Senate District for his card.  In 2007 and 2008 he used winter scenes captured by local photographer Bill Tague, and from 2009 to 2013 he selected holiday images by Norman Rockwell.

Students in grades 3-8 who live in the Senator's district are encouraged to participate in this year's contest.  Entry forms can be printed from or picked up in Downing's District Office, located at 7 North Street, Suite 307 in Pittsfield.

All submissions must be returned to the District Office by 4:00pm on Thursday, November 5th.  They can be dropped off Monday through Friday during business hours, sent via US Mail or scanned and emailed to

The winning design will be chosen by Senator Downing.  His printed holiday card will credit the student artist by listing their name, age, grade, school and hometown.

All contest participants will be invited to attend the Senator's Annual Toys for Tots Holiday Open House on December 1st, in his Pittsfield office, during which the contest winner will be announced.
