SUNDAY NIGHT CINEMA

On Sunday March 14, the Wayne County Arts Alliance’s Sunday Night Cinema will feature the zany and fast-paced Spanish comedy “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” (Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios) written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar, internationally known for his scandalous dark comedies. Winner of six Goya film awards, nominated for an Oscar as best foreign film, and winner of the New York Film Critics Circle Award, “Women on the Verge . . . "  established the reputations of its stars Carmen Maura and Antonio Banderas.

The film is a joyous comedy of errors and coincidences that examines the chaotic nature of love and desire. Through it all, Pepa is a testament to the resilient beauty and strength of women. The film has been adapted into a musical scheduled to open on Broadway later this year.

“Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” is the fifth film to be presented in the Wayne County Arts Alliance’s winter film series featuring classic movies by top directors from all over the world. The program will be presented at 7:00 p.m. at the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, 32 Commercial Street, in Honesdale. A donation of $5.00 per person is suggested, to help support the activities of the Arts Alliance. In this workshop, you will be introduced to an authentic Asian perception on how to approach and feel the “object” you want to express in sumi style through your playful and tender inner world. Also, you will be introduced to the philosophy and theory of sumi painting and calligraphy. A brief history of seal carving and usage of chops will be lectured. Students will have at least one completed painting from the workshop.
