The Wayne County Arts Alliance invites the public
to celebrate their eighth birthday as a non-profit grass-roots organization on Sunday January 24 from 3:00 pm to 4:45. The celebration will include a tribute to mentor artist
Raymond Rocklin and a showing of the film “Life as Art” by photographer Michel Legrand, which explores the creative genius of Raymond Rocklin.
An influential American abstract
expressionist, Rocklin was a peer of artists such as Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Franz Kline. Listed in Who’s Who in American Art and the International Directory of
Arts, Raymond, at 87 years old, spends most of his day in the studio in Wayne County and is still passionately creating art. When asked about his art, Raymond describes his sculptures as
‘symbols’. “I intend on sculpting to the end. What is wonderful about being an artist is that you never have to retire. Your
prospects, in fact, are even better as you get older. You can achieve what you couldn’t when you were younger.”
The WCAA membership meeting will be held at the Community Room of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, 32 Commercial St. Honesdale, Pa. For
more information about the event, please call the Wayne County Arts Alliance at 570.253.6850.
*The meeting will wrap up in time for people to attend the Honesdale Helps Haiti Concert.
